About us

FORIS is Redbourn Infant and Nursery School’s parent teacher association and a registered charity (registered number 1044487).  It’s aim is to raise money and support the activities of the school, where all the children in the school benefit from the money raised.

The association is run by a committee of parents and teachers. Mrs Byrne, the school’s headteacher is the President of FORIS.  All parents and guardians of children attending Redbourn Infant and Nursery School are automatically members of FORIS and each class has a committee representative.

Over the last few years we have arranged a whole series of events which have allowed us to provide a large gazebo and playhouses for reading and writing in the playground, new carpets for the classrooms, portable staging, musical instruments for the outside imaginative play area and the traversing wall for the playground. In addition, FORIS has funded numerous activities to enhance the children's learning, such as the drumming workshop which formed part of cultural week and a visiting theatre group.
How can I help?

Join the committee – it is great fun and very rewarding, no experience is needed just a willingness to help.  You can commit as much or as little time as you like, though the main roles have specific tasks.  We have meetings two or three times a term depending on the event to be organised.

Help at events – we always need more helpers than we can find at the Strawberry Fayre and Christmas Bazaar.  All we ask is an hour of your time to help run a stall or serve refreshments.  It is good fun and the look on the children’s faces as they win prizes makes it all worthwhile.

Come to events – with neighbours, friends and family.  Have fun whilst supporting the school.

It is not possible for us to raise the money needed without your help and support.  As well as trying to control our overheads we also need to broaden the interest and appeal of the events that we run and whatever the event there will always be a need to provide prizes, run raffles, bake or provide cakes etc. etc.

In order to do this we need to maximise the resources that we already have through our existing members and supporters.  We recognise and take account of the fact that whilst many people may not have much free time to give they may have skills or contacts (personal, family, social or at work) that are able to help by providing services or even the occasional freebie!

We would like to create a directory of skills, trades and services that our members may be able to offer.  If you are able to assist we would love to hear from you.
